Top Tips For A Successful Home Renovation

1. Select a trusted trades company: ensure they have experience doing the type of work you require; they understand your vision and are able to supply a free consultation
2. Check that your tradesperson is experienced/registered to carry out the work: are they a Registered Builder, Master Electrician or Master Plumber, are they EWRB registered (Electrical Workers Registration Board) If they aren’t:
a. you might not be insured for damage caused by poor workmanship
b. you may not be able to get the certificates you'll need for council sign-off if the work requires consent
c. you may have problems when it’s time to sell your home
d. the work might be unsafe
3. Ask the right questions: is your budget realistic? Find out how long the work will take, who will be doing the work, when can the work start/finish and will you need to move out of the property
4. Make sure your brief is clear: explain your required level of quality and finish, be as detailed as you can be before the work commences (e.g. where light fittings/power points should be located)
5. When the work is finished: make sure you have any warranties or necessary paperwork, keep any certificates (e.g. compliance certificates from an electrician or gasfitter) — you may need these to get council sign-off on the work

How can we help you transform your home?

Whether your renovation plans include a new bathroom, audio and lighting, a house rewire or adding heat for the winter, Christchurch Electrical can assist you from a free consultation and quotation, to quality installation.
